A message from our CEO, Sarah Hillier, and the Board of Trustees

Northamptonshire Mind exists to improve mental health across Northamptonshire and we are proud that our community hubs have been providing a place of support and safety for 60 years. Since the pandemic, the mental health crisis has deepened and the demand for mental health services is higher than ever. Despite reduced adult mental health funding, we have continued to deliver services, anticipating funding opportunities would increase in line with evidenced demand. This, combined with the sector-wide ‘triple squeeze’ - increased costs, increased demand and reduced funding, has left many organisations facing financial challenges.

Northamptonshire Mind is not exempt from financial pressures. In order to be able to continue serving our communities, we have to make difficult decisions that will affect everyone. Over the last year, we have taken action to save costs, however, we are in a position where we do not have the income to keep working as we have been. This means that we need to make changes. We need to transform the organisation by remodelling and rethinking how we best serve the people who need us. These changes include making some posts redundant and shortening some of our hub opening hours. Our Crisis Cafes will continue to offer support 365 days a year across the county. See our What's On Guides for services across our community hubs.

We have not taken these decisions lightly, we know that people with poor mental health and those with mental illness are sat on long waiting lists, and they want support when they need it. We are working with service users, partners and the wider community to support people through these changes. Our vision and purpose have not changed, we will continue to fight for mental health and will continue to lobby for increased investment into adult mental health services in Northamptonshire. Our focus continues to be securing new ways to fund our life-saving services to ensure communities are supported for another 60 years.
